Titan - Overview

What do you get when you combine Conquest with a big-ass ship called Titan? The answer is Battlefield's latest addition. The goal is to destroy your opponent's Titan while defending your own. Sadly, this is easier said than done.

To start things off, the Titans are protected by an energy shield, which only has one weakness: missiles. Thankfully, there just happens to be five missile silos strategically placed around the map, and they can be taken control of in the same manner as Control Points. Once activated, missiles launch from the silos towards the opponent's Titan on a two-minute interval. The more silos in your team's control, the faster the shield will be depleted. Once the shield is disposed of, the ship's hull will become vulnerable. While the missiles will eventually take care of the job, it's much quicker to board the Titan and attack the hull directly.

The first team to destroy the opposing Titan wins.

Titan - Walkthrough

Gain Control of the Silos
Your first order of business is to gain control of the missile silos, as it's the only way to destroy the enemy Titan's shield. Simply stand near one for a few moments to take control; a meter at the base of the screen shows the capturing progress.

Tip: Like control points, You do not have to stand right next to a silo to begin capturing it, so instead make use of the nearby objects to protect yourself. Duck behind boxes, or lie prone on the rear side of the silo to protect yourself.

While having a large amount of silos in your team's control is important, it's best to focus your efforts on a mere majority (e.g. three silos). So long as you maintain control of at least three silos, you'll outpace the opposing army by a good amount.

Tip: In most of the maps, there's usually one silo close to the Titan. Simply use the Titan's drop-pods to get to the silo quickly.

Captured Silos are worthless…
...if you don't retain them. The silos launch a missile on a two-minute interval. As such, if you take control of a silo, then lose it to the other team before two-minutes have elapsed, your entire effort will have been in vain. After taking control of a silo, immediately stand guard and take control of an ant-aircraft turret, if available, to defend it. Remember, you don't need every silo on the map to be successful, just try to keep hold of a majority.

Getting onto the Titan
Once the Titan's shields are down, you can attack the hull directly. However, getting into the Titan is tricky, because you actually have to get onto it first. The Titan has two decks in the rear of the ship that lead to the core. There are several methods of getting onto these decks:

  • Via Plane
Aircrafts are an easy target for the Titan's on-board turrents, so time is of the essence. The quickest and safest method is to fly a Transport over the Titan at a high altitude and have the passengers pod-drop onto the Titan's rear decks. Alterativly, the pilot can also land on the Titan, though it's tricky due to the small landing zone, in addition, the necessary slow speed for landing makes the ship an easy target.
  • Via APC
This is generally a safer, albeit slower, method of getting onto the Titan. Simply approach the Titan with the APC, and launch yourself from the vehicle using the launch pods in the last four passenger positions.
  • Via Titan Launch Pods
If your Titan is close enough, you can actually use the Titan's drop pads to launch yourself over to the opponent's read decks.

Once on the Titan
The Upper deck has two holes on either side that you can drop into, while the lower deck has two hallways. All of these lead to the ship's interior, and by extension, the core.

Unfortunately, a large blast door prevents access to the core. As such, four Control Panels need to be destroyed, which will subsequently cause the blast doors to fail and reveal the core. The most effective weapon against the control panels are the engineer's rockets. Three direct hits per panel will get the job done. If you're in a bind, bullets will work as well, but they're highly ineffective and will likely leave you dry for the inevitable gunfight.

Following the destruction of all four control panels, the core will be revealed. This is going to be tough as not only is the core significantly stronger than the control panels, but you're likely to face some serous opposition from the other team. Simply hammer away at it like the control panels to to take it down, which will then destroy the Titan.

Step up the defense when your Titan's shields go down
While it may be obvious, it's surprising how many teams neglect to defend the Titan until it reaches critical damage. Once the shields are down, enemy soldiers are capable of boarding the Titan. Ensure several of the Titan's turrets are manned to destroy approaching vehicles, in addition to having support units deploy sentry guns and claymores in the corridors leading to the control panels and around the core. Keep plenty of medics behind the front lines to revive fallen comrades.

Stop them Dead in their Tracks
The only entry points for your opponents to board the Titan are through the two rear decks. As such, this can be a great place to head them off. The quickest route up there is to use the Titan's drop pods. Although they're generally used for quick transport to the ground, they actually launch upwards at an arc, which allows you to land on the upper deck within seconds. It may take some practice, but it's a great way to catch the enemy off guard.

Use the Turrets
There are two types of turrets on the Titan, both of which excel at taking down enemy forces. If they are destroyed, they must be repaired for continued use - they do not respawn like vehicles. Thankfully, engineers can safely repair them from the terminals.

Titan - Placement (Commander Only)

Titan's can only be moved by the team's commander. Placement of the Titan should reflect your team's strategy of being either offensive or defensive, but keep in mind that they are slow, so it's best for the commander to determine the team's stance early on.

Offensive Placement
If playing offensively, position the Titan as close as many silos as possible. This will allow your team to drop pod onto the silos quickly after spawning. It also decreases vehicle travel distance to important destinations. In addition, it's a good idea to keep the Titan's air-to-ground stations manned constantly as they can wreck havoc on the opponent's ground forces.

Warning! Missiles don't yield the right of way:
Ensure that your Titan does not obstruct the path between your team's captured silos and the opponent's Titan, because even if the missiles are friendly, they WILL damage your Titan if it obstructs the way. The commander can view the missile flight path from the map screen to prevent accidents.

Defensive Placement
When playing defensively, park the Titan in a position with rough terrain underfoot, or in a corner of the map as far away from your opponent's Titan as possible. This will significantly increase the amount of time it takes for the enemy's units to reach your ship, especially for ground units.

Tip: If the situation turns sour (e.g. your hull's almost destroyed), abort attacking the opponent's Titan, and refocus the team's efforts on defending your own Titan's hull while capturing the majority of the missile silos. Generally, your enemy will be so focused on the defense of their Titan, there will be relatively little opposition for the silos. As long as you can prevent your opponents from reaching the core, while maintaining control of a majority of the silos, you'll reign victorious.
